The Healthy 22nd Street Garden was formed after 2 years of research and community outreach funded by the Aetna Foundation’s Healthiest Cities/Counties Challenge.  The demonstration garden (7 small garden boxes and 5 barrel gardens) was installed in Dec. 2020. Community Partner gardens were installed in 6 locations (schools, library, police dept., health centers). There were monthly educational programs and individual support provided. Three years later  there were over 30 members of the East Tampa community that were growing their own groceries. Garden members gave presentations and interviews to promote the continuance and expansion of the garden. Six members have taken leadership positions and will lead the Healthy 22nd Street Garden (H22) into the future. Regina Polite, H22 president, will speak today.
